Elke Monica (Dietrich) Gibson

March 23, 1944 ~ November 12, 2018 (age 74)

Elke Monica (Dietrich) Gibson, 74, passed away Monday evening at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana. She was born in Breslau, Germany on March 23rd, 1944 and came to America with her mother in 1949. She attended Grace Lutheran School on Charlestown Road and graduated from NAHS in 1962. She then attended Concordia Teachers College at River Forest, IL. She and her husband Bill Gibson were married on May 22, 1965. Monica was active at Grace Lutheran Church and later was the church secretary at Shepherd of the Hills for 28 years. She was a Sunday School teacher, choir director for all of the choirs and played the keyboard and organ for various services. She was the “Candy-Lady” for the preschool kids.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Bill Gibson; her children Scott Gibson (Julie), Heidi Platt (Allen), Melissa Marguet (Dan) and Kristofor Gibson (Sarah); brother Ralph Dietrich (Debbie) and her grandchildren, Camper Gibson, Regan Ralston, Emma Platt, Grace Platt, Abigail Marguet, Jacob Marguet, Anna, Mary-Jane, Adelynn and Noah Gibson.

A memorial visitation will be from 2 PM – 8 PM Thursday at the Market Street Chapel of Naville & Seabrook Funeral Homes, (1119 E. Market St., New Albany, Indiana)

Her memorial service will be held at 11 AM Friday in the Market Street Chapel. Interment will be private. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the WHAS Crusade for Children.
