Walter William “Wims” Kennedy, 87 went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 22, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on August 5, 1931 in New Albany Indiana to Daniel Patrick and Agnes (Witt) Kennedy. Walter graduated from New Albany High School in the class of 1950.
Walt attended the University of Louisville and went on to attend Indiana University Southeast with a degree in marketing. On July 24, 1954 he married Peggy Osborne. Together they had five children. Walter and Peggy were members at Southeast Christian Church and served as a Counselor in the Care Ministry, the New Member Coordinator, as well as a Decision Counselor, and baptismal where he made lifelong relationships and friends. Walt served as a Veteran in the Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother: Daniel “Pat” Kennedy.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Peggy; daughter Kathy (Kenny) Bupp, Karen (Marty) Riche, Kimberly (Ron) Uesseler, Kevin (Jennifer) Kennedy, and Kerry (Carol) Kennedy; 12 grandchildren: Brian (Greta, Justin, Jason and Ella) Jones, Neal (Cheryl, Chloe, Carly and Calum) Jones, Sarah (Josh, Savannah, Grady, and Madelyn) Burnett, Lydia (Paul, Brayden and Harrison) Schmitt, Seth (Carter, Eden) Jones, Meredith (Dave, Evie) Carrier, Jordan Bupp, and Kelly Bupp, Emily, Kyler, Ellie and Kallie Kennedy and 13 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Walt’s life will be held at 12 Noon on Friday December, 28, 2018 at Southeast Christian Church: 920 Blankenbaker Parkway: Louisville, KY), followed by entombment at Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, IN. The family will greet friends from 3 – 7 PM Thursday December 27, 2018 at the Market Street Chapel of Naville & Seabrook Funeral Homes(1119 E. Market St: New Albany, IN.) and from 10 AM – 12 Noon Friday at the church before the service. The Kennedy family would like to extend our gratitude to his caregivers, Jeanie Doak and Michelle (Mickey) Culver for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be in Walter’s name to: BsideU For Life Pregnancy and Life Skills Center or The Alzheimer’s Association or to an animal shelter of the donor’s choice.
