James M. Sullivan, 85, formally of New Albany passed away March 2, 2020 in Stockton, California. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn and mother, who passed away when he was a child. He was raised by his Aunt and Uncle Merrill and Myrtle Sinkhorn in New Albany. James was raised as a brother to their three sons- Kenneth, Harrold and Merrill Lee SInkhorn. Upon graduation from New Albany High School, class of 1955, he entered the United States Air Force where he retired after 30 years and achieved the rank of Colonel.
Jim later worked for San Joaquin County Sheriff’s office in Stockton from October 1988 to July 2006 as a work program supervisor. He was an avid sports fan, especially IU and Ohio State, where he received a BS degree while in the service. He was a volunteer coach for girls’ basketball at University of the Pacific and played in a senior softball league until his mid-70’s. He returned to New Albany often for visits with family and friends and high school reunions. Jim chose cremation and will be laid to rest in San Joaquin National Cemetery in Santa Nella, California. A ceremony honoring his military service will be held on April 27, 2020 at the cemetery. He will be missed by family and friends in New Albany and California.
