David A. Merry

March 4, 1937 ~ October 25, 2018 (age 81)

David A. Merry, 81, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana passed away Thursday afternoon at Baptist Health Floyd hospital in New Albany, Indiana. He was born March 4, 1937 in Bedford, Indiana to the late D.W. and Mona (Mitchell) Merry and grew up in Sellersburg, Indiana.

He was a 1955 graduate of Silver Creek High School, received his Associates Arts degree from Florida College in 1957 and graduated from Indiana University in 1960 having earned his Master’s degree + 30 hours and his Principal’s Certification.

He was employed with NAFC Schools from 1960-1997. He taught at Fairmount Elementary and Edwardsville Elementary prior to being Principal at Georgetown Elementary for 30 years. After retirement he worked at Louisville International Airport conducting school tours, airport education and in the information booth. Always fascinated by flying, he earned his private pilot’s license in 1991. Always having a love of travel, Dave was able to visit all 7 continents.

Dave’s greatest achievement was being a Christian and serving as an elder in the Church of Christ on Silver Street and then at Charlestown Road Church of Christ for 25 years.

He volunteered with the American Cancer Society as a Man to Man Facilitator from 1999-2007.

He is survived by his wife Nancy (Wasson) Merry; son Greg Merry and his daughter Elaine Bennett (Brent); his grandchildren Davis and Emma Merry and Parker and Molly Bennett.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty (Largen) Merry and his brother Bill Merry.

Visitation will be from 2-7 PM Sunday at the Market St. Chapel of Naville & Seabrook Funeral Homes in New Albany.

His funeral service will be held 11 AM Monday at the Charlestown Road Church of Christ (4601 Charlestown Rd., New Albany, Indiana) with visitation prior to the service after 10 AM   

Burial will be in Kraft Graceland Memorial Park New Albany, Indiana
