J. Robert Shine

November 1, 1923 ~ October 12, 2018 (age 94)

J. ROBERT SHINE, CPA, 94, passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital. He was born in New Albany and was a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church.  Bob received a BS with distinction from Indiana University. He received the Distinguished Entrepreneur Award from the Indiana University School of Business and was a senior counselor of the Dean’s Advisory Council of the Kelley School of Business.  He was also awarded an Honorary Doctor of Law degree by Indiana University and was a recipient of the Chancellor’s Medallion from Indiana University Southeast. 

      He spent many years serving Saint Meinrad Archabbey and School of Theology in various capacities including member of the Board of Advisors of Abbey Press, The Board of Overseers, Endowment Committee and Audit Committee.  He was on the Board of Advisors of Providence Retirement Home.  Bob also was involved with the New Albany Rotary Club.  He is Past President and member of the Indiana CPA Society and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He spent his entire career in public accounting with Monroe Shine & Co., Inc. 

     Bob was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years: Mary Ellin “Pindy” Shine, and his parents: Patty and Ira James Shine.

Survivors include:

                His brother:        Sam Shine and his wife Betty,

                His Nephew: John Shine and his wife Jane and their children: Jack and Jenna Shine.

A Funeral Mass celebrating Bob’s life will be held at 10 AM  Wednesday, October 17th, 2018 at St Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church (3033 Martin Rd: Floyds Knobs, IN.) with burial in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be at the Market Street Chapel of Naville & Seabrook Funeral Homes (1119 E. Market St: New Albany, IN.) from 2 – 8 PM Tuesday.

Memorial Contributions may be given to the St. Meinrad Archabbey, St. Meinrad, Indiana.
