Major Nelson Dodge, Sr. 88 of Georgetown, Indiana passed away Friday, April 12, 2019 at 8:35 a.m. at Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born on December 18, 1930 in Harrison County, Indiana, the son of Pete and Elnora Dodge. He retired from Paramount Plywood; however, he spent 37 years working for Hoosier Panel. He attended Georgetown Church of the Nazarene until his illness prevented him from doing so.
Major loved his family. And he was great at reminiscing about his younger days with wonderful stories that made anyone listening laugh and laugh. He also loved music and dancing. One of his most enjoyable things to do was drive and it didn't matter if it was a car, tractor, motorcycle or lawnmower. He really liked good food and if it was catfish, beans, or apple pie, then all the better. He adored his dogs, especially one named Pookie. Finally, he enjoyed the relationships formed during his time in Sunday school.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother: Morton (Bud) Dodge, his three sisters: Geneva (Dodge) Watkins, Fannie (Dodge) Paige, Alliene (Dodge) Wright, and his daughter: Deborah Ann (Dodge) Underwood.
Major is survived by his wife of 49 years Rose (Slaughter) Dodge, his three sons: Major (Butch) Dodge, Jr. (Susan); Richard Dodge (Paula); Allen Dodge (Vanusia), his two daughters: Rose Ann Harden (Tracy); Debbie Kay Wheat; a daughter by heart, Grace Miller; his 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Naville Seabrook Funeral Home in New Albany, Indiana on Monday, April 15, 2019 from 2 - 8 pm and Tuesday 9 am - 1 pm. His funeral service will be held at Naville Seabrook Funeral Home in New Albany, Indiana on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 1 pm. He'll be laid to rest at Hursttown Church Cemetery in Corydon, Indiana.
