Rita L. Karnes, 88, passed away on Wednesday at her home. She worked as a nursing assistant at Floyd Memorial Hospital (now Baptist Health Floyd) for over 20 years, retired from the OB Unit where she loved to “rock the babies”, then went on to work at Wee Care child center for 5 years. Rita was an extremely compassionate caregiver, who was also a very strong, independent and sassy woman. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Rita is survived by her only child, Bonita Baylor (Dan); grandchildren, Kymberly Baylor, Dana Inabnit-Baylor, Jack “JD” Baylor; “bonus grandson", Robert Dellner; 9 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John W. Karnes; parents, Willard Sr. and Geneva Hicks; brother, Willard “Junior” Hicks Jr. and sister, Juanita Dolan.
Visitation will take place at the Market Street Chapel of Naville & Seabrook Funeral Homes on Monday, July 13th, 2-6 PM with Funeral Service on Tuesday, July 14th, at 10 AM. She will be buried at Graceland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy made be made in Rita’s name to Hosparus of Southern Indiana, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Fund or American Heart Association.
